November 2018: Energy Codes Happy Hour Education Event
This evening happy hour and dinner event focused on the City of Houston adopted Energy Codes and their various applications and calculations as they pertain to the lighting industry. Sustainability standards such as LEED and product regulations were also covered. The discussion focused on IECC 2015 and ASHRAE/IES 90.1 2013. 1.5 TBPE PDH's and 1.5 IES CEU's were available as part of this talk.

The IES Houston Section took the first field trip of the year to local lighting manufacturer, US LED. The generous hosts provided a talk on the design and manufacturing process, and gave a tour of their facility, including their integrating sphere.

September 2018: IES National State of the Union Lunch
Joining us in kicking off the 2018-19 season, National VP and President-Elec Jennifer Jaques provided us with an IES State of the Union style address on the current state of the society. She spoke and gave an update on where we are headed as an organization and a review from the National Conference.

We heard discussion about the interactions, both positive and negative, between architects, lighting designers, engineers, manufacturers, and contractors as they progress through the construction cycle.

May 2018: EP's Guide to Retrofits
Our very own Frank Agraz gave a two part talk aimed at those who are new in the lighting industry. Frank's wealth of professional knowledge in the retrofit community served as the stepping off point for this conversation. Utilizing his experience on both the local board of directors as well as an At-Large Director of the National Board of IES, Frank pieced together how lighting professionals, both new and experienced, fit into this industry.

Our March Lunch and Learn featured Matthew Tanteri, a fellow in the IES and Associate Principal/Daylighting Practice Leader at HLB Lighting Design. He spoke on lighting, health and the relationship to the WELL Building Standard, which aimed to explain the lighting requirements within the WELL Building Standard and expanded the discussion to evolving trends in lighting applications that meet sustainable design and WELL goals. This cross-organization talk invited our colleagues in the USGBC and IBPSA to attend.

Special Agent Angela Haun joined us to give a talk on the role of cyber security when it comes to connected lighting and controls. Special Agent Haun is a member of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and has been with the agency in the InfraGuard division for 20 years.
