November 2017: LEED, Commissioning, and the IECC 2015
This exciting lunch and learn featured topics on LEED, Commissioning and the IECC 2015. David MacLean, the chair of the USGBC Texas Gulf Coast Region discussed the opportunities for achieving lighting credits within the LEED ratings system, the WELL Building Standard, and compliance with 2015 IECC, as well as the challenge of commissioning these systems. This talk was available for AIA and GBCI CEU's. ​

September 2017: Light and Color: A Designer's Toolkit
Kicking off the 2017-2018 season, lighting legend Barry Glas joined us at a local restaurant to provide an exciting talk entitled "Light and Color: A Designer's Toolkit". This talk had AIA CEU's available.

June 2017: Lightfair Review Panel
Jaren Fort will moderated a panel discussion of people who attended this year's Lightfair International Conference and Tradeshow. The panel discussed new technologies that were presented at the conference. Key topics included the Internet of Things (IoT) and healthcare lighting technology.

May 2017: Fundamentals of Lighting Awards Dinner
Jennifer Jaques joined us to celebrate the students who have successfully completed IES Houston's Fundamentals of Light course, as well as provide a higher level talk on the impacts of lighting within the design community, and how the IES fits into that process.

February 2017: TM-30 Method for Evaluating Light Source Color Rendition
Objectives
:
•   Describe the TM-30-15’s color rendition evaluation system and how it differs from the current CRI metric
•   Explain how TM-30 can aid lighting design and specification 
•   Recognize the limitations of this system, and more generally recognize the limitations of all measures for color rendition for dynamic lighting in the mainstream and match them to the application
Speaker Bio:​
Taylor Jacobs is the Western Regional Manager at Luminii Lighting. With 7-years of experience in architectural lighting in both specification and manufacturer sales roles, he couples his experience as a designer to help push specification grade fixtures into the market. He received his B.F.A in Theatrical Lighting Design from University of Cincinnati.

About the Speaker:
Bob Miller has been in the electrical industry for over 35 years with experience ranging from electrical contracting to Westinghouse Distribution, manufacturing with Legrand, Lutron Electronics and currently works as an independent lighting rep. His responsibilities have taken him around the world numerous times with international responsibilities. He has gotten his CDT, RCDD and Master Electrical License.

Wireless lighting control has been a mainstay of his recent experience with over eight years’ experience designing residential and commercial projects ranging from single family homes to the numerous schools, office buildings, government facilities and culminating in being the Lutron Electronics lead on the Exxon Mobil campus in the Woodlands which was the largest construction project in the world with 17 buildings coming out of the ground simultaneously. It has over 2000 wireless lighting control devices.

Bob’s combination of electrical and lighting control expertise has allowed him to be an early adaptor of exciting wireless lighting control. He has presented wireless solutions to architects, engineers and walked contractors through countless installations. I am sure the subject matter and Bob’s entertaining presentation will be quite an eye opener to many of our listeners.
