September 2016: Solid (State) Gold - Using LED to Generate ROI for Your Lighting Upgrade Project
Synopsis:
As owners of existing buildings search for ways to lower their operating costs, energy-efficient lighting continues to provide a strong financial case for spending capital dollars. Even companies who spent funds upgrading to the latest generation of linear fluorescent are again, now looking to LED to provide the next wave of attractive retrofit projects with a healthy return on investment.
Because so many retrofit projects must adhere to strict financial hurdle rates, lighting practitioners must deliver the absolute best combination of price, savings, and performance. This session will explore the technical complexities and financial challenges of using LED in lighting upgrade projects for existing buildings.
Learning Objectives:

February 2016: Forces of Change
Nanowire LED’s, blue lasers, graphene lighting and thought activated controls precede the day when nanobots connect our neocortex to the cloud. They exist now and are poised to move at an exponential speed into our architectural lighting community. “Smart” technologies offer convenience but not without risk. Industries are aligning, trajectories are converging and the velocity of change is propelling us into a strange new world. This presentation addresses barriers, opportunities and it projects a crude map of the new topology.
About the Speaker:
Mark has designed lighting systems for a wide range of applications including residential, retail, healthcare and both conventional and nuclear power plants. He has provided lighting education, presenting and teaching throughout North America, Asia and the Middle East. Mark has served on the Board of Directors of the Illuminating Engineering Society. He is a member of multiple IES, NEMA, ALA and ASHRAE Committees. He is a columnist for Lighting Design and Application Magazine writing on the Forces of Change in our industry. Mark serves as Chair of the NEMA Light Source Committee and Vice-Chair of the National Lighting Bureau.
He has attained the Lighting Certified (LC) designation from NCQLP and is a Certified Lighting Efficiency Professional (CLEP) with the Association of Energy Engineers. In addition Mark is a Certified Lighting Management Consultant (CLMC) with NALMCO and is a LEED Accredited Professional BD&C. He has attained the High-Performance Building Design Professional (HBDP) certification from ASHRAE.
